Insights® Discovery Training
in Switzerland

Insights® Discovery helps individuals and teams understand themselves and each other. Tree Trunk Partners is the first official Swiss distributor of Insights® Discovery. We provide workshops and trainings for teams and leaders across Switzerland, including Zurich, Basel, Bern, Lucerne and Zug. Our certified facilitators design and run team-building trainings and offsite workshops that bring the model to life in a practical and engaging way.

Insights® Discovery is one of the most widely used personality tools worldwide. It is based on the work of the Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung, who was a pioneer in the field of type theory.

Completing an online Evaluator provides a personal, detailed report that forms the basis for reflection, coaching, team development workshops and leadership trainings. The easy-to-remember 4-colour personality model offers a practical foundation for communication, teamwork and teambuilding training.

History of the Insights® Discovery Personality Instrument

Like the Myers Briggs MBTI tool, Insights® Discovery is based on the extensive research of Swiss psychologist Dr Carl Gustav Jung and the work of one of Jung’s students, Jolande Jacobi.

During the World War II, Katharine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers used Jung and Jacobi’s work to create one of the first psychometric instruments, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) which is today still the most widely used psychometric instrument worldwide.

The Insights® Discovery model was developed by Andi and Andy Lothian (the founders of the Insights Group) in the late 90’s and built on Jung and Jacobi’s research by creating a four-colour model to represent observable behavioural patterns.

The 4 Personality Colours

The 4 colours of the Insights® Discovery model represent different types of “energy” or, as Jung called them, “attitudinal functions”. No one colour is better or worse than the others, and each person uses a different mixture of them. This often helps explain our different behaviours and preferences.

Understanding, valuing and using these differences improves relationships and helps teams unlock their full potential.

RED Extraverted Thinking

Red represents the combination of extraversion and thinking: competitive, demanding, determined, strong-willed, purposeful

BLUE Introverted Thinking

Blue represents the combination of introversion and thinking: cautious, precise, deliberate, questioning, formal

YELLOW Extraverted Feeling

Yellow represents the combination of extraversion and feeling: sociable, dynamic, demonstrative, enthusiastic, persuasive

GREEN Introverted Feeling

Green represents the combination of introversion and feeling: caring, encouraging, sharing, patient, relaxed

Participants generally find the Insights® Discovery colours very easy to remember and the model can provide a useful and neutral “common language”, reducing conflict and providing a safe way to speak about interpersonal relationships in groups and teams.

4 Steps for Using Insights® Discovery

This is how Insights® Discovery is typically used to help facilitate individual learning, collaboration and teamwork:

1. Participants are informed upfront about the reason for using the Insights® Discovery instrument, and the benefits. They are provided with background information and given the opportunity to have any questions answered.

2. Participants receive an invitation via email to complete the online, confidential Insights® Discovery Evaluator composed of 25 multiple-choice questions. The questionnaire usually takes about 15-20 minutes to complete.

3. A certified Insights® Discovery trainer creates individual, detailed personality profiles for each participant based on the 4-colour model.

4. The individual Insights reports are shared with participants, either in an individual debriefing session (face-to-face or virtual), or in a workshop setting. The reports are confidential, and are only shared with others with the permission of the participant.

Licensed Practitioner

As an official Swiss distributor and licensed users of the Insights® Discovery system, we only provide results and reports in combination with an individual debriefing or attendance at a workshop.

In our workshops and training we often use a large Insights® Discovery wheel or “mat” placed on the floor and participants may choose to take up their respective positions on the wheel in order to illustrate the psychological relationship to other group members.

We deliver our Insights Discovery workshops, trainings and coaching either virtually or on-site across Switzerland, including:

  • Zurich
  • Zug
  • Basel
  • Bern
  • Lucerne

Our sessions are available for small leadership teams, whole departments, or full-company offsites.

Validity and Reliability

Insights® Discovery has been validated based on data from millions of profiles created worldwide over more than 20 years.

The instrument has been independently validated by the Psychological Testing Centre (PTC) of the British Psychological Society and has received their PTC Kitemark certification for compliance with the test guidelines of the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA).

It has also been certified by global quality assurance and psychological test assessors DNV GL.

FAQ

Insights® Discovery

What is Insights® Discovery?

Insights® Discovery is a psychometric tool for personal development that helps people better understand themselves and others through an easy-to-remember four-colour model. Organisations worldwide use Insights® Discovery to strengthen teamwork, communication, and leadership.

What psychological model is Insights® Discovery based on?

Insights® Discovery is based on the psychological type theory of Carl Gustav Jung. It uses the dimensions of Extraversion–Introversion, Thinking–Feeling, and Sensing–Intuition to make individual preferences visible and applicable.

What do the four colours (Red, Yellow, Green, Blue) in the Insights model mean?

The colours represent four different behavioural energies: Red stands for action and results, Yellow for enthusiasm and social energy, Green for empathy and patience, and Blue for precision and analysis. Every person uses a unique combination of these energies.

What is the four-colour model of Insights® Discovery?

The four-colour model of Insights® Discovery makes personality and behavioural differences visible in a simple, visual way. It provides a shared language that teams can use to improve collaboration and unlock individual and collective potential.

What is the Insights® Discovery Wheel and how do I read it?

The Insights® Discovery Wheel maps an individual’s preferences onto a circle based on their combination of colour energies. It helps to visualise team roles, communication styles, and potential areas of tension – a valuable tool in team workshops.

How is Insights® Discovery different from MBTI, DISC, and other personality tests?

While all three tools—Insights® Discovery, MBTI, and DISC—are based on psychological theories of personality, they differ in focus, structure, and usability. Insights® Discovery is grounded in Carl Jung’s typology, like MBTI, but offers a highly visual, colour-based model that is easy to apply in everyday work settings. Compared to DISC, which focuses primarily on behaviour, Insights® Discovery explores both underlying preferences and outward behaviours, offering a deep self-awareness and a broad foundation for improving communication, collaboration, and leadership. Many teams appreciate how the four colours of Insights create a common language that sticks and leads to lasting change.

How does an Insights® Discovery workshop work?

Prior to a workshop, participants complete an online questionnaire. During the program, each participant receives a personalised profile, which is then explored in an individual or group session. Through interactive exercises and guided reflection, participants learn how to apply Insights to real-world team and leadership challenges.

How much does an Insights® Discovery profile or workshop cost?

In Switzerland, an Insights® Discovery test typically costs between CHF 200 and CHF 300 per person. Pricing depends on the group size, format, and level of customisation. At Tree Trunk, we offer tailored packages for businesses and teams.
If you are comparing prices, be sure to ensure you are comparing like with like. For example, is a hardcopy version included in the price, and is a debriefing discussion included in the price? Please note that provision of an Insights Discovery profile without an individual debriefing or participation in a workshop is a breach of the Ethical Code of Conduct that all licensed Insights Practioners sign up to.

How does Insights® Discovery help improve team communication?

Insights® Discovery creates a shared language within teams. It helps people understand differences, reduce misunderstandings, and communicate more clearly. The result is more trust, better collaboration, and fewer conflicts.

How does Insights® Discovery support leaders in managing their teams?

Leaders gain deeper understanding of their team members’ needs, working styles, and motivations. This enables more adaptive leadership, clearer communication, and stronger employee engagement.

Can I use Insights® Discovery in recruitment?

Yes – with care. Insights® Discovery can support recruitment by helping shape interview questions or evaluate team fit. However, it should not be used as a standalone selection tool or to make hiring decisions.

How valid and reliable is Insights® Discovery?

Insights® Discovery has been used worldwide for over 20 years and meets international psychometric standards. It is certified by the British Psychological Society and DNV for validity, reliability, and ethical application.

Where do Insights® Discovery trainings and workshops take place?

We offer workshops across Switzerland – including Zurich, Zug, Basel, Bern, and Lucerne – as well as virtual sessions via Zoom or MS Teams. Offsite programs and in-house trainings at your company location are possible.
