Insights® Explore has been marketed as the ‘lighter-touch’, digital personal profiling tool. It uses the trademark Insights four colour energies, based on the psychology of Carl Gustav Jung, in a digestible and easy-to-use app. It’s a more widely accessible version of the original Insights® Discovery.

As licensed Insights® Discovery practitioners, what do we actually think of Insights® Explore? Does it offer anything that Discovery doesn’t?

A quick overview

Insights® Explore is a digital tool with everything in one handy app. Participants undertake the same online questionnaire as for Insights® Discovery and receive their results instantly. There is no paper or PDF personal profile, all results are displayed in the Explore app. 

The biggest difference is the absence of a structured workshop with an Insights accredited trainer. One or more Insights Champions are identified within the company and given additional training on preparing people for their results. The Champion is also responsible for encouraging use of Explore and facilitating its practical implementation in the workplace.

• Insights® Explore offers a scalable version of a well-established psychometric tool. Many organizations don’t have the capacity, or funds, to offer an in-person Insights® Discovery workshop to every single individual within a company. This is particularly the case with large and geographically dispersed teams. However this doesn’t mean that an understanding of colour energies, working and communication style wouldn’t be an advantage to every individual. 

• The online platform is organized into sections, covering an overview of your preferred colour energies, tips on communicating with colleagues of other colour energies and learning chapters to peruse at your own pace.

• With regards to the question “does Insights® Explore offer anything that Discovery doesn’t?” – in short, yes. A portion of the app is dedicated specifically to wellbeing. Skills such as mastering an optimistic mindset and managing stress are discussed, with guidance for each colour energy preference. There is a similar area on ‘service’ – including skills such as relationship building and customer challenges – and ‘remote working’ – covering skills like adaptability and belonging.

• We believe these areas could add a lot of value and are potentially in place to give something additional in lieu of a face-to-face workshop.

• The major downfall of Explore over Discovery is the reduced detail included in your personal profile. The Explore app demonstrates your colour energy preference order with a small amount of detail for each colour. The Insights Discovery personal profile report has a full breakdown of how your colour energy preferences influence your interactions with others, your decision making abilities, possible blind spots and suggestions for development – amongst other topics. It also places you on the 72-type wheel, giving a deeper understanding of your personality style such as whether you’re a classic, focused or adaptive type person. 

• Insights® Explore certainly has the possibility to be a successful tool. However the platform is learner-led so for the team to benefit as a whole, the concept relies on each individual putting effort into utilizing the app’s features.

Insights® Explore is ideal for cascading down through all levels of an organization. If a leadership team has worked with Insights® Discovery and wants to extend the teachings across the board, without arranging multiple workshops for a large number of people, this digital version fills the gap.
